SONSHINE PRESCHOOL
Bedfordview Methodist Church oversees a school catering for the little ones living in the area;from 2 years,once they are out of nappies,up to school goers. There are four competent ladies who are dedicated to training,encouraging and preparing the children for school days ahead and life in general. The four groups are split according to age. The teachers attend regular courses to keep abreast with the latest trends and meet weekly with ladies in the congregation,who are themselves preschool teachers,for networking sessions.

School times
The school programme runs from 08h00 to 12noon lunch and rest time with afternoon story/play from 15h00 until 17h00.
The children(and teachers) have a long day as some are dropped off at 07h00 and are fetched after 17h00. It is so important to have good sleep and nutritious meals. We have a staff memebr,Cecelia,in charge of the kitchen,eating area and bathrooms,preparing a balanced diet for everyone,and keeping the venues clean.
Programmes
Music plays an important part of the day and the office staff love being uplifted by enthusiastic voices singing the “You are my Sunshine”,“Hokey Pokey”,Jabulani Africa and many more. Lynell Massey joins the children on Friday mornings for a sing-a-long.
Storytime and creativity are part of the morning organised programmes. Swimming lessons were a weekly treat last summer. Outings to the Bird Park have been arranged as well as visits from the Fire Brigade,and Police.
T shirts were made for all the children with the school logo and “team” colours. Lots of fun was had by all at a Sports Day held in the grounds of the Conference Centre.
Local teenagers volunteer to come and assist as part of their community outreach – soccer was a great favourite. Hopefully this was played on the lawn more often than in the garden!
Enrollment
The enrollments are welcomed. The school fees for 2011 are R 550.00 per month per child,with a reduction for 2 or 3 from the same family attending. There is a registration fee of R150.00 for each new pupil enrolled.
We now have 60 children enrolled but there is capacity for more children between the ages 2 – 6yrs,as soon as they are potty trained. Lorna Aird,admin,and Elmarie Pedro,director, are still meeting regularly with the teachers to encourage and advise the teachers,Paulina Majosi, Rebecca Sekele, Joyce Maswanganyi, Thembi Mahlangu.
